LiUNA Local 183 believes that post-secondary education is the foundation of success. Since 2006, the Labourers’ Local 183 Scholarship Trust Fund has provided financial support to students, awarding an incredible 1,266 scholarships, totaling over $10.6 million. As we continue our mission, we are thrilled to announce that applications for the 2026 scholarship program are now open!

Post-secondary education is a significant stepping stone toward a brighter future, and we are committed to supporting our members, their children, and their grandchildren in achieving their academic goals. Whether you’re just starting your post-secondary journey or continuing your education, our scholarship program can provide the financial assistance you need.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • You are the member, child or grandchild of a Local 183 member or retiree member who is in good standing.
  • Have not received a Local 183 Scholarship in the past
  • If previously applied but not awarded, you are eligible to re-apply
  • One scholarship is awarded to a student with a disability

Please note spouses of members are not eligible to apply.

How to Apply?

  1. Personal Information Form – Fill out the form with all required personal details.
  2. Official Academic Transcript – Provide an official transcript from your most recent school or institution.
  3. Acceptance Letter – Letter of acceptance for the college or university you will attend in the upcoming academic year (September 2026).
  4. Additional Supporting Documents – This includes resume, reference letters, awards, community involvement, or paid work positions.

All applications must be submitted through our secure Online Portal by the application deadline, July 15, 2026.

2026 Retiree Benefit Enhancements

The Executive Board of Local 183 and the Board of Trustees of the Labourers Local 183 Retiree Benefit Trust Fund are pleased to announce the following enhancements to the benefit program.

RETIREE MONTHLY BENEFIT PAYMENT

The Retiree monthly benefit payment will reduce from $40 per month to $35 per month (Retiree cost of $32.41 + 8% R.S.T.) effective September 1, 2026.

DENTAL CARE – Fee Guide Increase

The ODA Dental Fee Guide reimbursement will increase from the current 2026 to the 2027 ODA Dental Fee Guide and adjust annually to maintain the current ODA Fee Guide for all dental claims incurred on or after January 1, 2027.

LiUNA LOCAL 183 HEALTH CLINIC – Registered Dietitian Services

Retirees and their eligible dependents will now have access to a Registered Dietitian (RD) for in-person assessments, offering private one-on-one consultations to address a wide range of nutrition and health priorities, including Weight Management, Chronic Disease Management (diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, fatty liver disease, etc.), Digestive Health Concerns (irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), food intolerances, bloating, etc.), Food Allergies (gluten, lactose intolerances, etc.) and more.

LiUNA LOCAL 183 MENTAL HEALTH & WELLNESS CENTRE – Mental Health

Located at the LiUNA Local 183 Headquarters in Vaughan, Retirees and eligible dependents will have access to confidential, in-person mental health services to assist in healing and recovery while focusing on a journey to healthy minds and healthy lives. The clinic will provide onsite support for stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, triggers, and other emotional challenges affecting daily life and will be operational in the Fall of 2026.

LiUNA LOCAL 183 MENTAL HEALTH & WELLNESS CENTRE – Substance Abuse

Located at the LiUNA Local 183 Headquarters in Vaughan, Retirees and eligible dependents will have access to confidential, in-person addiction and substance counselling The program will assist individuals experiencing early signs of substance abuse and provide support for alcohol, prescription medication, and substance use concerns, including recovery planning and relapse prevention and will be operational in the Fall of 2026.

LiUNA LOCAL 183 MENTAL HEALTH & WELLNESS CENTRE – Psychiatric Consultations

Effective September 1, 2026, Retirees and their eligible dependents will have direct access to Psychiatric Consultations for virtual confidential assessments, providing Retirees with timely access to expert mental health assessments and treatment recommendations within two The program includes a comprehensive psychiatric assessment to review current symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment approach to provide evidence-based treatment recommendations to the treating physician. Retirees gain faster access to answers and support when needed most.

LiUNA LOCAL 183 HEALTH & MEDICAL REHABILITATION FACILITY

LiUNA Local 183 is excited to announce an onsite integrated healthcare clinic currently being built at LiUNA Local 183. The facility is designed to address the primary, immediate and high-impact healthcare needs of the Local 183 membership. The facility is expected to be operational in the Spring of 2027 and will focus on timely access, continuity of care and provide direct access to the following:

  • Access to Primary Care Physicians and Nurse Practitioners (NP) supporting initial access and care coordination billing directly through OHIP, reducing delays and minimizing out-of-pocket costs for Retirees.
  • Laboratory Testing such as Bloodwork and Urine Testing, Occupational Screening, Specimen Collection, Electro Cardiograms and Immunization of Vaccine Support.
  • Access to Physical Therapy services such as Physiotherapy, Kinesiologists, Athletic Therapists, Chiropractors, Podiatrists and Message Therapists.

Located conveniently at the LiUNA Local 183 Headquarters in Vaughan, the clinic offers critical healthcare services to all Retirees and their eligible dependents to stay ahead of health concerns by screening for hypertension, heart disease, cholesterol, diabetes and more. Each confidential assessment is 30 minutes and tests vital signs, body measurements, blood levels for a complete Health Risk Assessment Report which is then reviewed by a healthcare professional.

2025 Retiree Benefit Enhancements

The Executive Board of Local 183 and the Board of Trustees of the Labourers’ Local 183 Retiree Benefit Trust Fund are pleased to announce the following enhancements to the benefit program.

RETIREE MONTHLY BENEFIT PAYMENT

The Retiree’s monthly benefit payment will reduce from $45 per month to $40 per month (Retiree cost of $37.04 +8% R.S.T) , effective September 1, 2025 .

DENTAL CARE – Fee Guide Increase

The ODA Dental Fee Guide reimbursement will increase from 2025 to the current 2026 ODA Dental Fee Guide and will be adjusted annually to maintain the current ODA Fee Guide for all dental claims incurred on or after January 1, 2026.

DENTAL CARE – Implant Benefit Coverage

The Dental Care Implant Benefit Coverage is 50% at the first stage, 50% at the second stage, up to an implant maximum of $7,500 once every 5 years per individual.

EXTENDED HEALTHCARE – Lifetime Maximum

The Extended Healthcare benefit increased from $250,000 lifetime maximum to an unlimited lifetime maximum.

EXTENDED HEALTHCARE – Hearing Aids

The Hearing Aids benefit is a maximum of $3,500 per month, every 36 months, for one set of hearing aids.

LONG TERM CARE

The Long-Term Care benefit provides up to a daily maximum benefit payment of $150 up to an overall Lifetime maximum of $300,000.

LONG TERM CARE –  Respite Care Benefit

The Long-Term Care Respite Care Benefit provides a daily payment of up to $100 for a maximum of 14 days, extendable to 21 days, within each 12-month period. This benefit covers actual costs incurred for additional home care or home health care services provided by a Licensed agency when the primary unpaid caregiver of the insured person needs temporary relief .

LONG TERM CARE –  Home Modification Benefit

The Long-Term Care Home Modification Benefit provides $500 per period, up to a maximum of $1,000, for expenses related to the installation of safety equipment within 60 days of qualifying for Long-Term Care .

LONG TERM CARE – Grief Counselling Benefit

The Long-Term Care benefit includes a Grief Counselling Benefit of $1,000 per period, up to a maximum of $2,000 per period, for expenses incurred for grief counselling within 365 days following the death of the insured member.

EXPEDITED HEALTHCARE – Joint Replacement Surgery (Retiree Only)

The Expedited Healthcare benefit provides expedited access and coverage for the following Joint Replacement surgeries: Hip, Knee, Shoulder, Elbow, Ankle, and Wrist.

PARENTING / ELDER CAREGIVING

The Parenting and Elder Caregiving benefit provides support to eligible retirees, allowing them to connect with specialists who offer personalized assistance through telephone or video conferencing. This program includes access to resources such as libraries, FAQs, assessment tools, and daily management tools designed to help caregivers make informed decisions that meet the needs of their care recipients, regardless of age, life stage, or specific concerns.

Effective June 1, 2025, in addition to direct deposit reimbursement currently available with a registered eClaims account – the following payments can now be made directly into your bank account via Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT):

  • Vacation Pay
  • Bereavement & Parental Leave
  • Jury Duty
  • Legal Claims

Simply download the application for EFT direct deposit and then submit the form here. All future LiUNAcare Local 183 benefit payments previously paid via cheque will now be deposited directly into your bank account.

Please note that if you have previously submitted an application to receive EFT reimbursement for prescription drug, extended healthcare and dental payments, your account will be automatically updated to direct deposit for all future benefit payments effective June 1.

Any changes to existing authorizations will require a new application form.
